IF you have just returned from 'PayPal' for the purpose of joining us, Thank You for your payment. Your transaction has been completed, and a receipt for your purchase has been emailed to you. You may log into your paypal account at www.paypal.com to view details of this transaction. The Association will be contacting you with log-in information to the members-only Ready Room. Questions about your membership payment can be directed to the Skyhawk Association at membership-paypal@a4skyhawk.org

BEFORE YOU REQUEST HELP in your search for someone or something!

The Skyhawk Association is happy to help where we can. However, we are an all volunteer organization with limited resources. Please make a reasonable research effort of your own before contacting us.
  • Seriously consider JOINING the Association. You will support ongoing reseach on the Skyhawk and the people who took her into battle; plus receive access to the private "Ready Room" site with its discussion threads, images, and data.
  • Best Way to Explore the site! There are drop down menu items at the top of each page which have additional menu items that are activated by hovering a mouse over them. Once you see an interesting topic, click on the menu item and you will be sent to the page you want to read. Some menu items are unavailable or hidden until you log onto the site. Membership is required to see all of our information.
  • Why can I not access all of the information on the site? This organization is a volunteer organization and as an inducement to increase membership, some of the pages are for members only.
  • How do I recover a forgotten password? If your e-mail address is up to date, a temporary password will be sent to you automatically by clicking here and filling in either your e-mail address or your user name. Once you decide on a new password, please write it down.
  • What if I do not know my user name or my e-mail address is not up to date? Contact, see below, our Secretary.
  • My e-mail address is out of date. How do I update it? E-mail is the wave of the future. While some of us do not have an e-mail address, those who do will receive more information about the site to include our annual electronic version of the Journal. By logging into the site and then clicking on your user name at the top of the page, there are some items that can be updated on your account page by clicking on the 'Edit' tab. You can then change information on the 'Account' and 'User Info' pages. If you change something, it is necessary to click the 'Save' button at the bottom of the page for the changes to take effect BEFORE you leave that page. This is a safeguard that the system uses to prevent inadvertent changes. Keeping your information up to date helps everybody. Fill out this form.
  • Why do members have to perform a lot of the administrative tasks that your volunteers once did? Quite simply, we do not have enough volunteers to perform such tasks and we need more volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, we will teach you. NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED. Click here and fill out our Volunteer Form.
  • Why is there no information or photo of my squadron on your site? This is your site and we've incorporated methods to allow you to add information to the site. Photos may be added here or you can click here and fill out our Volunteer Form.
  • Where do I find parts for a Skyhawk I am restoring or maintaining? The Skyhawk Association has no affiliation with parts suppliers and endorses no one. The following list may assist in finding parts and we only suggest you to use caution, with your best judgment in selecting sources for parts. Please note that this is not a complete list, just the businesses known to us. We would also suggest that you network with other A-4 operators, some of whom are listed under “A-4 Users” on this site and don’t forget the many museums that have A-4s on display.
    • Warbird Alley
    • United Aeronautical
    • Camar
    • Derco
    • Brown
    • Sabreliner
    • Kitco
    • IEP/IEPO - International Engine Parts – 111 N Mill St., Santa Paula, CA, (805) 933-3230

    • Skyhawk Ventures, offers the following comments concerning A-4 publications:
    • George Posey at Newport Aeronautical (contact information below) has in stock the most complete library of all of the Navair manuals for all variants of the A4 and TA4 and if he is out of stock he can get them from Navair. Navair will release most unclassified documents through a Foia request but if you are not a government contractor it takes many months to get documents from their archives. George is a government contractor and can get them with a pretty quick turnaround. They are obviously more expensive if you go through George. For Airframe changes, Power plant bulletins, etc I recommend the engine manufacturer or some of the engine shops that do overhaul work on J52s like AeroTurbines in Stockton CA. I've gotten PPC and other engine related bulletins and change orders from Elmo Iadevaia at IEPO. Elmo is very knowledgeable engine guy. He runs a second generation engine parts business with a solid reputation and is usually willing to help. His limited contact information is below as well. He operates worldwide and is sometimes hard to get in touch with. I recommend starting with contacting his assistant, who's name is Abel, at this email address abeliep@aol.com . Its been a couple of years since I talked to Elmo or Abel so I am not certain about their current contact information. IEP has a website that will have telephone contact information. Ron Guy at United Aeronautical has a lot of manuals. Manual sales is not their business. They use them to service and overhaul parts that they sell. Porter Spangler.
      George M. Posey III, Newport Aeronautical Sales, 949 574-4100 ph, 949 574-4106 fx, george@newportaero.com and www.newportaero.com
  • I have a POW/MIA bracelet, and would like to return it to the family. The following link can help - TaskForce Omega.
  • How do I contact someone who served in a Skyhawk outfit that you have listed on the Association Web site? Check the Association Contact List to see if there is a SDO for the unit in question. A unit SDO should be your first contact. For units that do not have a SDO, contact the SDO-Coordinator.
  • Looking for a Marine? Then you can also try Leatherneck Magazine. They publish a "Mail Call" column which lists requests for contacts with Marines, etc. Mail to: Mail Call editor, P.O. Box 1775, Quantico, Va.
  • Other places for finding former squadron etc. members: Sites like Hullnumber.com and Classmates.com

Aircraft Accident Summaries/Aircraft Mishap Investigation Reports
The aircraft accident reports are a record of operational losses. The summary reports normally do not include reports on combat losses. Presently, the collection covers the period 1920 to December 1979. The records are filed by type of aircraft and date of the accident. The collection is only on microfilm. NOTE: Without the type of aircraft and date of the accident it is almost impossible to locate the report on the microfilm. Requestors must have the type of aircraft and date of the accident in order to obtain a copy of the report. Records for the post December 1979 period are held by the Naval Safety Center. Their address is Commander Naval Safety Center, Attn: Code 71, 375A Street, Norfolk, VA 23511-4399.

  • DUTY STATION VERIFICATION [USN]: Many times your Discharge Papers (DD 214) don't tell the whole story of your duty stations while in the service. One of the things they won't show is when you were sent on TDY or TAD. Proof of duty stations arrival and departure is contained in Ships Log for ships and Deck Log for Shore Activities. When you check in and out an entry is made in one of those Logs. The names of assigned officers usually appear on the first page of each month's deck log. The enlisted men assigned to a naval ship or command are listed on muster rolls which were also submitted monthly. If needed, the following are Government sources where you can locate and obtain information regarding assignments:
The Old Military and Civil Branch, National Archives, 700 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20408 Tel: (202) 501-5385 holds copies of the deck logs from 1801 through December 1940, as well as the muster rolls through 1938 in bound books.
The Modern Military Branch, National Archives and Records Administration, 8601 Adelphi Road, College Park, MD 20740-6001 Tel: (301) 837-3510) has custody of the deck logs from 1 January 1941 to the year over thirty years from the present date, as well as microfilm copies of the muster rolls from 1939 through 1975. After 1956, a list of the officers is usually included with the muster rolls.
The Modern Military Branch at College Park also has custody of the Bureau of Naval Personnel Casualty Files, which have the official list of Navy casualties for each World War II action.
The Enlisted Personnel Management Center, New Orleans, LA 70159-7900, ATTN: Personnel Accounting has custody of the muster rolls or crew rosters from 1976 to 30 September 1987.
The Navy Personnel Command (PERS-06P), 5720 Integrity Drive, Millington, TN 38055 Tel: (901)874-3165 has custody of the muster rolls or crew rosters from 1 October 1987 to the present.
